Richard T. Shetler, Jr., chairman of the Eastside Republican Club-Political Action Committee, has announced the group’s annual fundraiser set for 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club.
The Yacht Club is located at 788 Lake Shore Road, Grosse Pointe Shores.
The fundraising dinner will feature former congressman Mike Rogers currently Republican candidate for U.S. Senate.
“We are honored to host Mike Rogers at our event. He has the background and perspective Michigan needs in the U.S. Senate,” Shetler said in a statement in advance of the dinner.
Rogers was born and raised in Livingston County, is an Army veteran and former FBI agent.
Rogers served in Congress where was chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and among the first to sound the alarm on economic and national security dangers posed by China.
He fought Chinese efforts to steal American intellectual property, particularly working to protect Michigan’s auto industry.
Rogers is married to his wife Kristi, who has also lived a life of service. She served in Iraq as a liaison for the Department of Defense and worked to secure our borders with the Customs and Border Protection Agency.
Service is instilled in his family. Rogers’s daughter served in AmeriCorps after college, helping armed service members get access to the care they need.
His son, the fourth generation of the Rogers family to serve in the U.S. military, is a Naval Academy graduate currently serving as a U.S. Navy officer.
Formally known as the Thomas R. McCleary Jr. Eastside Republican Club-Political Action Committee, the group is named in memory of one of the club’s original members, Tom McCleary, who also served as a director of the local political action committee.
Tickets for the dinner are $70 per person, but Shetler says, “Ask us about special rates for students.”
